She is the daughter of renowned agricultural scientist Dr. M. S. Swaminathan, the father of India’s Green Revolution, and educationist Dr. Mina Swaminathan.

She completed her MBBS from the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, followed by an MD in Pediatrics from AIIMS, New Delhi. She later pursued post-doctoral training in the United States and the United Kingdom, specializing in neonatology and paediatric pulmonology. Career
